Municipality & Piazza Piccola Sassuolo
In Sassuolo, the historic capital of Italian ceramics, Morandistudio developed bespoke gres porcelain surfaces inspired by traditional handcrafted terracotta and the character of hand-made Mexican sun-dried tiles. Drawing on the rich fossil heritage of the Apennine territory, the design incorporates shell imprints into the ceramic surfaces, celebrating the area's geological identity.
The project also includes a unique monumental ceramic tree created for the Municipality of Sassuolo. Weighing approximately 600 kg, the sculpture required a custom-built kiln and a firing process lasting nearly two months, with temperatures increased gradually to ensure the piece remained free from cracks. Together, these works represent the union of craftsmanship, technical innovation and the ceramic tradition that defines the city.
